State Government update on WA Residential Battery Scheme

Following the recent launch in March of the WA Residential Battery Scheme, the State Government has announced more information about the scheme and eligibility criteria.

The WA Government is expanding the Residential Battery Scheme to support up to 100,000 households. This will complement the Federal Government's Batteries Program by:

  • helping to relieve cost of living pressures in regional WA; and
  • supporting WA businesses and jobs in the renewables industry.

 

About the battery rebate

Horizon Power customers may be eligible for up to $7,500 towards the cost of a battery installation.

To be eligible for the battery rebates or no-interest loans, households will be required to join our (new) virtual power plant (VPP) - we call this Community Wave.

More specific details about Community Wave, eligibility criteria and technical requirements will be available soon.

No-interest loans

Up to $10,000 will be made available for households with a combined annual income of less than $210,000.

Loans can be used for batteries, solar panels, inverters - but must be installed with a battery. Repayment periods will be up to 10 years.

Applications for rebates and no-interest loans under the WA Residential Battery Scheme will open on 1 July 2025

It will be administered by a third-party service provider with the experience and expertise in delivering similar schemes across Australia. The name of this scheme administrator will be announced soon.
