That's why our engineers need to consider any load impact on our micro-grids by assessing all Distributed Energy Resource (DER) system connections before installation - to ensure they comply with our Technical Requirements.
Here's everything you need to know to apply to connect a renewable energy system to the network.
What is Community Wave?
Community Wave is our very own Virtual Power Plant (VPP) which helps customers get more value out of their solar and battery energy systems.
It connects your system to the local network - and balances the supply and demand of electricity across the whole community.
This means fewer outages and more access to solar energy for everyone.
Smart Connect Solar and Smart Connect Battery
If your customers decide to add a battery to their exsiting system, they’ll need to be connected with a compatible Smart Connect Solar inverter.
All Communiy Wave connections will be energy managed with Smart Connect Solar & Battery
As more renewables connect to the network, it becomes harder to maintain a stable power supply.⯠Smart Connect Solar & Battery means more rooftop solar can be zconnected without impacting network stability.
From 1 July 2025, all customers connecting solar and battery systems will need to sign the Community Wave terms and conditions.
As a contractor or installer, you’ll need to meet the Horizon Power Technical Requirements, including confirming the installation of a compatible inverter and battery.
What you need to know
Technical Requirements for Low Voltage EG systems - have been updated to facilitate the new DERMS requirements and SGD supplied by Horizon Power. Download or learn more.
Inverters - for Basic EG connections, only select inverter makes and models are initially compatible with the SGD (supplied by us). This list will continue to grow as more inverters become compatible.
Training - to install Smart Connect Solar, you'll need to complete our new Solar Accreditation Australia (CPD113) micro-accreditation.
Technical requirements, schedules & assessments
The Basic Micro EG Connection Technical Requirements or Low Voltage EG Connection Technical Requirements specify the minimum technical requirements for customers connecting renewable energy to our networks. You cannot proceed with any installation until you have received approval from Horizon Power in writing.
